App Store screenshot sizes for iPhone and iPad

Last checked: · 5 min read

For the App Store, design your iPhone screenshots once and export them at 1320 × 2868 px (the largest iPhone) and 1206 × 2622 px (the size Apple now marks as required). Both have the same shape. For iPad, export at 2064 × 2752 px. App Store Connect scales these down for every smaller screen.

The rest of this guide has the full size table, the rules App Store Connect checks when you upload, and what makes people tap Get.

The short answer

  • iPhone (required): Apple's page lists one required iPhone slot, "iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display)": 1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556 px portrait. That's the 6.3-inch class: iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 18 Pro.
  • iPhone (largest): 1320 × 2868 px portrait (2868 × 1320 landscape) for the 6.9-inch Pro Max and iPhone Air class. 1290 × 2796 and 1260 × 2736 are accepted too. Upload it so the biggest phones get full-resolution images.
  • iPad: if your app runs on iPad, upload at the 13-inch size, 2064 × 2752 px portrait (2752 × 2064 px landscape). 2048 × 2732 is also accepted.
  • Smaller devices: App Store Connect fills older and smaller iPhone and iPad slots by scaling the sets you upload. You only make separate sets if you want different artwork for a specific device.
  • Coming: a new "iPhone Duo" class (1398 × 2034 outer, 2007 × 2853 inner display) becomes required from April 2027 for apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later.
  • Count and format: 1 to 10 screenshots per device size and language, as JPEG or PNG.

Apple now names iPhone slots by device class. Inch sizes are shown for reference.

The Face ID large (6.5-inch) slot is only required if you don't provide the large Dynamic Island set. Older Home Button sizes are filled by scaling, so you can skip them.

Apple Watch screenshots are required for watch apps, and the size depends on the model: 422 × 514 px for Ultra 3 and 4, 416 × 496 px for Series 10 to 12, down to 312 × 390 px for Series 1 to 3. Pick one size and use it in every localization; Apple requires that. The full list is in Apple's screenshot specifications.

Screenshot requirements App Store Connect checks

  • Exact pixels. An image one pixel off is rejected at upload. Export at the exact size; don't scale a screenshot from a different device.
  • 1 to 10 per size and language. Each localization can have its own set.
  • JPEG or PNG, no transparency. Flatten your images before export: a PNG with an alpha channel won't upload.
  • Real app, real screens. Screenshots must show your app in use. Marketing captions and backgrounds around the screen are fine; a screenshot that is only a title card is not.

What makes people tap Get

In search results, your first three screenshots sit right under the icon. Most people decide here.
  • The first three do the work. In search results the App Store shows your first screenshots beside the icon, so most people decide before they open your page. Put the reason to download in screenshot one.
  • One idea per screenshot. A short caption (five words or fewer) above a single screen reads at thumbnail size. Three features crammed into one image don't.
  • Show the result, not the menu. The finished workout, the booked table, the sorted inbox: the moment your app pays off.
  • Keep one style. The same background, type and device angle across the set makes it look like one product, which is what it is.
  • Localize the captions for your biggest markets. Translated text on the same screens is a cheap win.
  • Test, then target. Product page optimization lets you A/B test the icon, screenshots and previews against your current page, with up to three variants. Custom product pages (up to 70) give an ad or campaign its own screenshots and URL.
One idea per screenshot, one style across the set: the same caption spot, background and framing.

Common questions

Do I need screenshots for every iPhone size? No. Apple requires one iPhone slot, the medium Dynamic Island size (1206 × 2622), and scales your sets down for the rest. Upload the 1320 × 2868 set as well so the largest phones get sharp images, and use the 13-inch set for iPad.

Do I still need 6.5-inch screenshots? Only if you don't provide the large Dynamic Island (6.9-inch) set.

How many screenshots can I upload? 1 to 10 per device size and language. Many guides say "at least 3"; Apple's minimum is 1, though three or more is what fills the search result.

Can App Store screenshots be landscape? Yes. Use the landscape size for the same display, such as 2868 × 1320 for the 6.9-inch iPhone. Keep the set in one orientation so it reads as one set.

Can I use transparent PNGs? No. Flatten them first; App Store Connect rejects images with an alpha channel.

Is there a file size limit? Apple's screenshot specifications don't list one. Some guides quote 10 MB, but that isn't on Apple's page. A flattened PNG at 1320 × 2868 uploads without trouble.
